Final Results of the 6th Ethiopian General Election
National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced results of the 6th Ethiopian General Election on July 10, 2021, with a live transmission ceremony in which various stakeholders and guests attended, including HE President Sahlework Zewude.
According to the results, election took place for the Federal Parliament seats on 436 constituencies. Among these, 3 constituencies will see a re-counting and 8 constituencies will observe a re-election based on complaints and/or irregularities.
While only three opposition political parties have managed to win a small number of seats, 4 independent candidates have also become members of the next parliament. National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) won 5 seats in Amhara, whereas Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice (EZEMA) and Gedeo Peoples Democratic Organization (GPDO) won 4 and 2 seats from SNNP respectively.
The results for the regional parliaments is not that much different. NaMA managed to get 6 Amhara regional parliament seats, and EZEMA and GPDO have won 4 and 2 seats for the SNNP regional parliament seats. Argoba People Democratic Organization and Gambela Peoples Freedom Movement are the other opposition parties that won regional parliament seats; 1 in Amhara and 2 in Gambela, respectively.
Hence, Prosperity Party has won the majority seats in both regional and federal parliaments with 96.5% occupancy.
