The Final and Signed Agreement between the FDRE and the TPLF on Cessation of Hostilities

The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Tigray Peoples Liberation Front signed an agreement on 2nd of October 2022 to end the two-year war through a permanent cessation of hostilities.

The agreement made real after a ten-days peace talk between the two parties held on a high-level panel organized by the African Union. His Excellency former President Olusengun Obasanjo of Nigeria chaired the high-level panel, supported by His Excellency former President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Her Excellency former Deputy President of South Africa Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. International observers were also part of the ten-days peace talk.

The 8-pages agreement outlined detailed provisions starting from expressing the mutually agreed principles of permanent cessation of hostilities to disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) procedures, as well as to transitional measures as to restoring peace and interim regional administration in Tigray. Furthermore, the agreement also requires implementation of a comprehensive national transitional justice policy aimed at accountability, ascertaining the truth, redress for victims, reconciliation, and healing.
